While it is true that traditional floral still lifes were not an important part of Monet's oeuvre, he did, from time to time, concentrate intensely on them. This may possibly be connected with the favourable market for floral still lifes in the second half of the 19th century. The sales figures for Monet's paintings from 1880 show that he received higher prices for his still lifes than for his landscapes.
