Jacob Jordaens (I)

The Circumcision

c. 1660
prints & drawings

Jordaens had a characteristic drawing style with strong contours and the use of white highlights and colours. Some of his drawings, especially the composition studies, are rather large. The Royal Museums in Brussels owns an equally large oil sketch by Jordaens that displays many similarities to this drawing. The painting for which they both served as studies is unknown.
