Paolo Veronese

The Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine and other studies

c. 1568 - 1569
prints & drawings

Veronese made these studies on the back of a letter dated 11 August 1568, sent to him by one Francesco Sadinello from Castelfranco. The letter can be seen in reverse through the paper. Veronese experimented with the composition and the figures, covering the whole page. He worked all these elements into a painting that is now in the Royal Museums in Brussels.
