Monarchs aside, Erasmus was one of the best portrayed figures of his time. His portrait was drawn, painted and turned into prints by such great artists as Hans Holbein the Younger, Albrecht Dürer, Hans Baldung Grien and Quinten Massys. Hieronymus Hopfer based his portrait on a medal by Massys (1519).
