Giovanni Battista Piranesi
Veduta with the Temple of Jove
c. 1750 - 1758
prints & drawings
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has an almost complete collection of prints by the three great 18th-century Venetian masters: Piranesi, Canaletto and Tiepolo. This is thanks to Dr J.C.J. Bierens de Haan (1867-1951) who bequeathed his collection of 26,000 prints to the
museum and established a substantial fund for acquiring more graphic works (Lucas van Leyden Foundation). Piranesi is famous for his series of prints entitled the Carceri (prisons) and the Vedute di Roma (views of Rome).
