JCJ VANDERHEYDEN
Inclined Horizon with Black and Yellow
1981 - 1984
modern art
You almost immediately interpret the division between blue and white in this painting as an horizon. Remarkable, because the composition can also be abstract; there is no indication that it deals with a landscape. Yet the artist has apparently hidden somewhere a minimum of information that directs the perception and makes one viewer feel like a tiny polar bear, next to his larger father on an endless expanse of snow, while the other imagines himself in an aircraft, sinking into the cloud layer between heaven and earth.
