JCJ VANDERHEYDEN

Checkerboard

1988
modern art

From the very beginning, black and white painted rasters crop up in the work of JCJ Vanderheyden: symbols of repetition and reproduction. The white squares of this chess board correspond with the minimised masterpieces on the other panel. The masterpieces are unique - and at the same time part of a pattern. Conversely, from close up the white squares could be painted snow flakes. Or scraps of cloud.
