Mark Rothko

Grey, Orange on Maroon, No. 8

1960
modern art

In so called Colour Field Painting, colour expresses nothing but itself and the artist's signature in the form of the brush stroke is avoided. The diffuse contours of Rothko's planes of colour make them appear to float and glow. There are only two Rothko's part of Dutch collections.
