Vasili Vasileevich Kandinsky
Leicht im Schwer
1929
Modern art
In 1926 Kandinsky published the treatise 'Punkt und Linie zur Fläche: Beitrag zur Analyse der malerischen Elemente' (Point and Line to Plane: Contribution to the Analysis of the Pictorial Elements). The painting's title 'Light in Heavy' is typical of Kandinsky's impossible problematics, which he posited to stimulate the imagination. This work is from his 'cool' period, which he characterised as like 'ice in which a lame burns'.
