Willem Kalf

Still life with a Ming bowl

c. 1660
old masters

Kalf generally placed his objects in a fairly dark surrounding, in which they are lit by a soft light. He paid much attention to reflections and glimmers. This interplay of light and dark gives his still lifes an almost mysterious atmosphere.
