Albert Marquet
Pont-Neuf au soleil
1906
modern art
Marquet's view of Paris with the Pont Neuf breaths a clear peace and harmony. An omnibus pulled by horses passes in the foreground, a statue of Henvy VI stands to the right on the bridge, and to the left the buildings along the Seine can be seen. Everything is bathed in bright sunlight. Marquet has seized the contrasting influence of the light to place clearly defined shapes opposite each other.
This composition, in large colour areas of purple, deep green and a warm yellow and pink link the work with Fauvism, of which Marquet was one of the least 'wild' representatives.
