Lyonel Feininger

Upper-Weimar

1921
Modern art

The American painter Lionel Feininger taught at the Bauhaus, the famous art school in Weimar. In this cityscape of Weimar he has reduced the houses, the street and the sky to angular planes. The subdued colouring and rhythmic composition are inspired by the Cubism of Braque and Picasso.
