Carel Fabritius

This masterly portrait was once believed to be the work of Rembrandt. But it is actually a made by his brilliant student Carel Fabritius. About ten paintings by Fabritius have survived; the artist died prematurely when his studio in Delft was destroyed by a huge gunpowder explosion in 1654.
