Study for a Kneeling Female Saint

Fra Paolino da Pistoia (in 1509)

Fra Paolino joined the Dominican order at the age of fifteen. Six years later he was transferred to the Convent of San Marco, where he assisted Fra Bartolommeo in his workshop. However, the artistic quality of his master’s paintings is not evident in his own works, which mostly follow existing models and are stiffly executed. Following Fra Bartolommeo’s death, the majority of the workshop stock passed to Fra Paolino.
