John the Evangelist

Stefan Lochner (in 1445 - 1450)

These rare panels by the 15th century German master Stefan Lochner are the wings of a small triptych, the central panel of which is unknown. Only twenty works by Lochner are known. St John the Evangelist and Mary Magdalene are identified by their attributes: the chalice and the jar of ointment.
