prints & drawings

The museum has an important collection of drawings and an extensive library of prints which shows the historical development of art from the middle ages to today. The collection contains works by masters such as Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Antonio Pisanello, Jean Antoine Watteau and Paul Cézanne.

Drawings and prints are extremely delicate, which means that most works are not on view in the museum permanently. There are, however, regular temporary presentations where you can admire the prints and it is also possible to view prints or drawings on request in the Print room.

The Twelve Months by Hans Bol

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen owns a unique series of old-master drawings by the Flemish landscape draughtsman and painter Hans Bol from 1580-1581. His drawings of the twelve months were used as the design for a series of prints engraved by Adriaen Collaert and published by Hans van Luyck.
